California here I come!
This August I'll be winging out to Los Angeles to join the annual exposition of the ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership. During this four day affair I'll be introducing those folks to some of what makes Charm City so very special as I'll be sampling up tastes of the Chesapeake to meeting and convention planners from around the world.

The Maryland Seafood Festival is Back!
September 10th-12th at Sandy Point
Sandy Point State Park will again be the host site for the 43rd annual Maryland Seafood Festival, a tasty and entertaining tradition, with music, great food, exhibits, arts and crafts, and featuring The Capital's 20th Crab Soup Cook-off and the Department of Natural Resources' Maryland Fishing Challenge Featuring Diamond Jim Award Ceremony. This family fun and feasting event is expected to draw over 20,000 visitors from the all across the mid-Atlantic region.

I'll be there on the 10th judging that fantastic Crab Soup Cook-Off. Really hope to see you that day!

Baltimore Book Festival 2010
Got to be one of my favorite events of the year. Baltimore's beautiful Mt. Vernon square comes alive for the Book Fest, proving again that Baltimore really IS "The City That Reads." The festival runs all weekend and I'll be appearing on the "Food for Thought" stage on Sunday, the 26th.

Gertrude's Krautfest 2010
In case you missed Krautfest 2010 but would like to try your hand at making your own sauerkraut -maybe even have a Krautfest of your own? Here's a nifty slideshow of a kraut-making demonstration we did recently to show you how it's done.

Happy shredding!

Thanksgiving 2009
Here's a great piece that appeared in the Washington Post: "Guess who's coming to Thanksgiving dinner." It lays out the quintessential holiday meal with recipes from some of the most notable chefs of our times, like James Beard, Julia Child, Fannie Farmer, Alice Waters - and yours truly... Wow! Thanks for the invite!

It includes an updated version of my Sweet Potato Pie from Chesapeake Cooking with John Shields. You'll find more holiday recipes here.
