The "Culinary Ambassador of the Chesapeake Bay,"John Shields is a chef, a television host and an author. His popular restaurant, Gertrude's, has been thriving at the Baltimore Museum of Art since 1998. John has written three popular cookbooks and hosted two television series on the cuisine of the region.

Annual Taste of Cambridge!

Come over to Maryland’s Eastern Shore for the biggest event of the year in downtown Cambridge, Maryland - the yearly Taste of Cambridge!

Before the street festival begins, John will be appearing noontime at the gorgeous Governor’s Hall at Sailwinds Park. There will be a full reception with appetizers and John will speak at 12:30. He’ll be selling and signing copies of The New Chesapeake Kitchen afterwards.

Then, at 5pm, head downtown to Race and Poplar Streets for the Taste of Cambridge outdoor festival. See John judging the exciting “Crab Cook-Off” competition that has local top chefs competing in categories of best crab cake, crab soup, crab dip, and crab specialty dish, while enjoying a free street festival with music, kids’ activities, a professional crab-picking competition, gallery openings, late shopping, and more… John will be selling and signing copies of The New Chesapeake Kitchen after the official judging.

The festival is free but to enjoy the entrees in the Cook-Off you’ll need a ticket. Before July 1, tickets cost $25 per person. Between July 1 and 10, tickets cost $30. Tickets the day of the event cost $35 (based on availability). You can buy tickets here.
